Functional Capacity Development Program
Your journey toward professional independence starts here.
Return to work with confidence with Physiobalance.
Our Functional Capacity Development Program supports you at every step of your rehabilitation for a successful return to work.
What is our Functional Capacity Development Program (FCDP)?
We offer a personalized Functional Capacity Development Program (or second-line return-to-work program), designed to maximize the client’s functional abilities with the primary goal of a successful return to work.
By adopting a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, this program not only optimizes the worker’s physical capabilities but also addresses the psychosocial barriers that may hinder the return to work and the resumption of daily activities.
How can I access second-line return-to-work services?
We primarily offer services to individuals who have suffered a musculoskeletal injury or a concussion. When conventional first-line treatments are deemed insufficient, your doctor must refer you to the FCDP, and it must be approved by your insurance before starting the program.
We have established partnerships with several insurers, including CNESST, IVAC, SAAQ, and private insurers.
Revitalize your well-being, strengthen your potential. What services are available at the FCDP?
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of qualified and caring professionals, each with extensive expertise in their respective fields, such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, kinesiologists, osteopaths, and psychologists, who will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to the worker’s needs.
To meet the worker’s needs, we assess the rehabilitation requirements and the adaptation of the workstation:
- Rehabilitation Potential Assessment (RPA)
- Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
- Task-specific functional capacity evaluation
- Functional capacity evaluation in the workplace
- Workstation assessment
By adopting a multidisciplinary approach focused on the client’s needs, we offer a wide range of interventions during the Functional Capacity Development Program (FCDP):
- Simulations of professional tasks
- Physical conditioning program
- Hydrotherapy
- Pain management therapy
- Workplace adaptation
- Workplace visit
- Psychological coaching
- Education
- Mindfulness
- Social reintegration and activities
- Gradual return to work

Frequently Questions
The program is personalized based on your condition and rehabilitation goals, typically lasting between 4 to 12 weeks. It begins with a thorough assessment, followed by a phase of skill development and intensive rehabilitation. The final phase focuses on simulating work tasks and a gradual return. Each step is adjusted according to your progress and the recommendations of our multidisciplinary team.
We work closely with CNESST, SAAQ, IVAC, and several private insurers for program coverage. The process starts with a referral from your treating physician, followed by an initial assessment of your file. Our administrative team handles the submission of the treatment plan to your insurer and supports you throughout the necessary steps until approval.
The return to work is planned in a gradual and safe manner, based on a detailed assessment of your abilities and the requirements of your position. We work in coordination with your employer to adapt your work environment if necessary, and create a personalized plan with a gradual increase in hours. Regular follow-ups allow us to adjust the program according to your tolerance and progress.
We conduct regular assessments of your physical and functional abilities every 3-4 weeks, including job-specific tests. Our multidisciplinary team meets weekly to analyze your progress and adjust the program based on your needs. Detailed reports are shared with your treating physician and insurer to ensure optimal follow-up of your rehabilitation.
