What is kinesiology?
Kinesiology is the study of the dynamics of human movement and its component parts as the individual interacts with his or her environment. Aimed at clients of all ages, kinesiology uses exercises to improve physical condition.
The kinesiologist
With a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, the kinesiologist is a physical activity and movement specialist who prescribes adapted exercises to patients for treatment or prevention purposes. In addition to helping a varied clientele maintain an active lifestyle, he or she can contribute to the relief of chronic ailments.
When should you consult a kinesiologist?
The kinesiologist helps people improve their physical condition, for example by increasing muscle strength, improving flexibility or rehabilitating an injury.
Kinesiology treatments are also suitable for people with pain that is still present three months or more after an injury, or who suffer from a chronic pain syndrome:
- Herniated disc
- Sprain
- Tendinopathy (tendonitis)
- Capsulitis
- Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis
- Osteoarthritis
- Algodystrophy (CRPS: complex regional pain syndrome)
- And much more
In this context, kinesiology interventions can help you reduce your pain, regain your physical capabilities, resume your activities and prevent relapses.
Kinesiology and chronic pain
Scientific research has demonstrated the countless beneficial effects of physical activity. Public awareness is growing, especially in terms of its more general effects on cardiovascular health and stress management. But a good exercise plan also has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, so the practice of specific therapeutic exercises can treat or prevent many musculoskeletal pains and disorders, as well as reducing chronic pain.
Persistent pain does not disappear on its own. It is a complex phenomenon that requires intervention by a specialized professional.
