Arequipa-Peru Mission: Free treatments for thousands of people

Access to osteopathy for people in need
In August 2004, driven by a desire to help the less fortunate in her country of origin, Tatiana Vera-Lescano partnered with Philippe Druelle, founder of the College of Osteopathic Studies, to launch her first humanitarian mission in Arequipa, Peru. Since then, twice a year, they have been recruiting osteopaths and osteopathy students from Canada and around the world to provide free treatment to Peruvian patients in need during two consecutive weeks.
On average, 60 patients are treated each day, and a local team of professionals (doctors, nurses, coordinators, interpreters, etc.) supports their work with the patients. In collaboration with Nadia Todorof, D.O., the two organizers cover accommodation and meals so that the osteopaths do not have to pay for their trip. On-site, they work with partners such as the Rotary Club, the Universidad Católica, Amistad (a social workers’ association), and hospitals to facilitate the logistics of each mission.
Give back to others
Despite a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 32 missions have taken place in Peru so far, and a permanent mission was held from April 2007 to March 2009. In total, Tatiana and Philippe’s humanitarian missions have improved the health of over 23,000 people thanks to more than 200 osteopaths!
Tatiana is excellent! She has been my osteopath for 10 years. She has helped me a lot. I met her after my first pregnancy, I was in pain everywhere, and after two sessions, I felt great. Since then, I go to her for all kinds of aches and pains, and she gets me back on my feet!

Excellent service! I 100% recommend the physiotherapy service. On the physiotherapist's recommendation, I followed a 10-treatment plan for an issue with my left knee. The pain is gone. Now, I am able to do my daily activities.
