Access to osteopathy for people in need
In August 2004, driven by a desire to help the less fortunate in her home country, Tatiana Vera-Lescano teamed up with Philippe Druelle, founder of the Collège d'études ostéopathiques, to launch her first humanitarian mission in Arequipa, Peru. Since then, twice a year, they have recruited osteopaths and osteopathic students from Canada and around the world to treat needy Peruvian patients free of charge for two consecutive weeks. On average, 60 patients are treated every day, and a local team of specialists (doctors, nurses, coordinators, interpreters, etc.) supports their work with the patients. In collaboration with Nadia Todorof, D.O., the two organizers take care of accommodation and meals, so that the osteopaths don't have to pay for their trip. On site, they collaborate with partners such as the Rotary Club, Catolica University, Amistad (an association of social workers) and hospitals to facilitate the logistics of each mission.
